Corsair SAAC Welcomes Special Olympics Basketball Community Games

Nearly 100 UMass Dartmouth student-athletes, coaches and administrators welcomed five teams from across the area to the Tripp Athletic Center for Special Olympics Community Basketball Games.

Members of the Corsair Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helped officiate and manage contests between squads representing the Wareham Wild Vikings, Whitney Wizards, Wareham Celtics, Bridgewater-Raynham Bears and the Bridgewater-Raynham Wildcats.  Each team played a pair of contests during the event and interacted with members of the UMass Dartmouth athletic community throughout the afternoon.

“This is one of the most special days on our calendar every year, and it is once again an honor to welcome these talented athletes to UMass Dartmouth,” Corsair Director of Athletics Amanda Van Voorhis said of the event.  “The interaction between the Special Olympians and our student-athletes creates a special bond and truly represents what it means to be part of the community.  It is a privilege for our department and the University to be a part of this each and every year.”
