Though our football student-athletes will undoubtedly be disappointed they may be unable to play in their traditional time and conference, we understand the rationale for today’s announcement made by the MASCAC on the status of Fall 2020 competition.  Commissioner Baumann and the MASCAC Council of Presidents are looking at possible alternative dates of play in the future, and we will continue work closely with her office to identify those opportunities.

It should be noted that today’s announcement was specific to the sport of football—an action plan for remaining Fall 2020 intercollegiate competition under the Little East Conference umbrella will be reviewed and discussed later this month.  As Chancellor Johnson noted in his July 6th University Re-Opening Plan, a final decision on the status of Fall 2020 intercollegiate athletic competition will be made no later than August 1st.

As has been the case throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes will continue to be the focal point of all decisions made on intercollegiate athletic competition in these unprecedented times.
