SACO, Maine -- The UMass Dartmouth golf team finished in a tie for third place at the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships played over the weekend at the par 71 Biddeford-Saco Country Club, as the Corsairs posted a two-day total of 633 in this year’s event.
Sophomore Jack McDonald (New Bedford, Mass.) led the way individually for UMass Dartmouth by finishing in a tie of seventh place in a field of 40 competitors, as he fired a two-day total of 76-78-154. Freshman Charlie Karagosian (Davis, Calif.) was next in a tie for 14th place with a score of 78-81-159, while senior Nick Avilla (Westport, Mass.) and freshman Alexander le Gassick (Mattapoisett, Mass.) tied for 16th place with respective scores of 81-79-160 and 84-76-160. Sophomore Garrett Lane (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the Corsair scoring by finishing 32nd with a score of 86-87-173, as UMass Dartmouth finished tied with host Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in the final team standings.
Southern Maine ended Johnson & Wales’ two-year reign by claiming the first GNAC title in its program history, as the Huskies topped the Wildcats by eight strokes (596-604) in the competition.
UMass Dartmouth closes out its fall campaign next weekend at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships that will take place at The Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.
