Hat Trick! Entwistle Claims Javelin Crown At Open New England Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --  Make it a hat trick for UMass Dartmouth junior All-American Jordan Entwistle (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional), who captured the Open New England championship in the men’s javelin on Friday afternoon at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut.

Entwistle, the reigning Little East Conference champion in the event, claimed the New England Division III crown at Williams last Friday evening before taking the Open title against competitors from all three divisions this afternoon at Jess Dow Field.  Jordan, who entered the day ranked second nationally in the javelin, broke his own school record in the event with a mark of 66.47 meters/218 feet, 1 inch to top runner-up Kelby Mace of Maine by over 10 feet.

Entwistle, who was named earlier in the day as the 2019 Little East Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, topped his previous record set back on March 30th at the season-opening Corsair Classic of 65.63 meters/215 feet, 4 inches.  Five of the top eight competitors in today’s event came from the Division I ranks, including two throwers from Hartford and Rhode Island.

The 20th-ranked Corsairs, who stand in eighth place after the opening day of competition, will be in action for the second day of the 2019 NEICAAA Championships on Saturday morning at Jess Dow Field beginning at 10:00 am EDT.
