UMass Dartmouth senior guard Ashley Brown earned her second straight nod as Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for her performance in three Corsair contests.
A resident of New Bedford, Mass. and a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Brown averaged 15 points, 9.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 3.3 steals on the week, including 19 points, 12 boards and nine assists in an 88-83 overtime setback to Western New England in opening round play of the 22nd Annual Lafrance Hospitality Tournament. Ashley added 12 points, six caroms, five assists and four steals in a 59-44 third place game triumph over Union to earn a spot on the all-tournament team, and she began the week with a near triple-double performance of 14 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and five steals in a 61-49 victory over Regis.
Brown is averaging 17.5 points, 9.5 boards, eight assists and 3.5 steals in the early going for UMass Dartmouth, as she also collected the Little East accolade last week after another near triple-double effort of 25 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and four steals in an 87-86 overtime win over MIT on November 8th.
Head Coach Matt Ducharme’s Corsairs, who stand at 3-1 overall on the season, return to action on Tuesday evening with a non-league clash at Bridgewater State that tips-off at 7:00 pm EST.
